Carole Eady-Porcher

Carole Eady-Porcher, a JustLeadership alumna, serves as a member of WCJA and the BEYONDrosies BRAG and Steering committee. Carole is a formerly incarcerated woman who notably served as co-chair of the organization, Women on the Rise Telling HerStory (WORTH). WORTH was founded by formerly incarcerated women to serve incarcerated and formerly incarcerated women and their children, and worked to change public policy and perception of these populations. As a member of WORTH, Carole, along with many allies, was successful in getting the NY State Anti-Shackling Act (2009; 2015) and the ASFA Expanded Discretionary Bill (2010) passed. She serves as a coordinator of the Exodus Reentry Ministry at Abyssinian Baptist Church and is a member of the National Council of Incarcerated and Formerly Incarcerated Women and Girls. She also serves as a board member with WCJA and the Center for Community Alternatives.

Ms. Eady is the recipient of many awards and honors including Citizens Against Recidivism’s prestigious Glenn E. Martin Advocate of the Year Award, the Howard Mann Humanitarian Award, the Women in Prison Project’s Incarcerated Mother’s Advocacy Award and numerous scholarships. Ms. Eady has a master’s degree in forensic psychology from John Jay College of Criminal Justice, where she occasionally teaches and serves as a motivational speaker for programs that serve to empower women. She is a frequent presenter at many national and state conferences on social injustice, criminal justice reforms, and women’s issues. Portions of her life story were published in the books, My Sister’s Keeper and Interrupted Life. Carole’s article, One Mother’s Experience with the ASFA was published in the Women’s Law Reporter Journal (Rucker’s College).
