At our New York City Wellness Center, The Center for Community Alternatives (CCA) is addressing a long-standing need in New York: an integrated opioid treatment program tailored to the unique experiences of individuals impacted by the criminal legal system. CCA’s Wellness Center provides comprehensive harm reduction services and holistic support to substance users and those in recovery across all five boroughs.
The Wellness Center offers a wide range of services to meet participants where they are and support their journey toward wellness. This includes medications for opioid use disorders such as methadone, buprenorphine, and naltrexone which are proven, lifesaving interventions that help participants stabilize and rebuild their lives. These evidence-based treatments reduce opioid use, symptoms of opioid use disorder, and risks like infectious disease transmission, legal system involvement, and overdose deaths, particularly for individuals returning from incarceration. Mental health counseling, court advocacy, health education, employment support, substance use counseling, and peer support are also available, provided by a team of skilled practitioners and peer specialists.
At our Wellness Center, Crossroads to Recovery, CCA’s OASAS-licensed outpatient substance use treatment program, provides trauma-informed care to individuals affected by the criminal legal system. Crossroads also provides education on addiction and coping strategies, individualized counseling and treatment planning, and referrals to resources such as housing, child welfare services, mental health care, and more. By challenging the stigma and criminalization of substance use, CCA’s programs honor the dignity of each participant and create pathways to thriving futures for individuals, families, and communities.
