Court Advocacy

Overview

CCA's Court Advocacy program directly supports court-involved youth and adults in NYC, playing a critical role in case outcomes. Court Advocates testify on behalf of participants and offer the court alternatives to incarceration, which can make the difference in a judge’s decision whether to send a person to jail.

Advocates accept referrals from attorneys, prosecutors, judges, parole and probation officers, review legal documents, interview participants, and propose tailored alternatives to incarceration to the court. Once enrolled, participants access CCA's holistic services, including mental health counseling, substance use treatment, educational advocacy and job support.

Crucially, participants remain at home, reducing disruptions caused by detention or incarceration. Advocates assist participants throughout their cases, providing the court with updates on personal and professional progress, and present on-record summaries during court appearances.
