Solmaz Firoz

Solmaz Firoz is an experienced lawyer who transitioned to academia as a professor of legal practice skills in 2016 to help train the next generation of lawyers. She now advises Columbia Law School students who are interested in public interest law. Before entering academia, Solmaz practiced as an appellate attorney at the New Jersey Office of the Public Defender, where she represented indigent clients challenging their state convictions and sentences. Prior to that, she worked on complex civil matters as a law firm associate in New York City and clerked for the Hon. Faith S. Hochberg in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey. She received her JD from NYU School of Law and her BA from Columbia College.
