Project Description
Kerry Gant is a teacher, community leader and advocate who specializes in Restorative Justice, equity and inclusion. The Co-founder of The Breaking Down Barriers Project, Kerry’s passion lies with humanizing the struggles of those marginalized in our communities to bring about meaningful reforms to the criminal legal system.
She brings her knowledge of trauma-informed pedagogy, restorative practices, and equity to the work of exposing the harms of the carceral system in NYS. She served as the vice chair of the Monroe County Alliance for the Transformation of Policing. Kerry has been recognized for her work in the community on anti-racism, diversity, and inclusion.
A volunteer campaign advocate for the Center for Community Alternatives, Kerry is committed to shifting the focus of our criminal legal system from one that is rooted in racism and punishment to a more transformative, restorative, and rehabilitative system that recognizes the value and dignity each individual inherently has.
