Jon P. GetzJon P. Getz is a premier trial and appellate lawyer with extensive experience in both civil and criminal cases in federal and state courts. He has tried over 200 matters during his career. He has been recognized by Super Lawyers© for his litigation skills.

Jon has successfully represented individuals, small businesses, members of law enforcement, firefighters, and attorneys in complex federal, state, criminal and civil litigation. In civil practice, he has tried numerous cases for both plaintiffs and defendants involving contract disputes, personal injury, business torts, and New York State Civil Service matters. He has also been trusted to represent firefighters and police officers who have been injured in the performance of duty, as well as in duty disability-related cases.

Jon Getz is a sought-after lecturer, former undergraduate professor, and former President of the Monroe County Bar Association.

Jon is a leader in his community and his service and dedication to the practice of law has garnered him many awards and recognitions, including: President’s Award from the Monroe County Bar Association in in 2012 and 2014, Charles F. Crimi Award from the Monroe County Bar Association, Criminal Justice Act Award from the United States District Court for the Western District of New York, New York State Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers Gideon Award, and the New York State Bar Association’s Most Outstanding Young Lawyer Award.

Jon is well-known in his community, serving on many Boards, volunteering for decades in youth coaching, including being the past president of the largest all-girls soccer club in Upstate New York. He is also an avid cyclist and has participated in various charity rides, including the local Tour de Cure with partner Laurie Vahey.

Jon is also widely known for his willingness to fight for what is right. In 1998, Betty Tyson was released after 25 years in prison for a crime that she did not commit. Her conviction was overturned through Jon’s legal representation.

Mr. Getz is a graduate of the University of Rochester with honors in history and political science and received his Juris Doctor degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Law in 1992.

While born in North Carolina, Jon grew up in Buffalo, New York and has called Rochester his home since 1993.

Mr. Getz is admitted to practice in New York, California, the United States Courts of Appeals for the Second and Ninth Circuits, and the United States District Court for the Western District of New York, the Northern District of New York, and the Central District of California.
