Project Description
Jan Fisher serves as the Executive Director of Nonprofit Westchester (NPW), a 300-member organization committed to strengthening Westchester’s nonprofit sector, the people and communities served and the nonprofit workforce.
Her more than 35 year career includes program development, advocacy and fundraising to benefit people experiencing mental health and trauma, survivors of domestic violence, LGBTQ+ youth, young children and families, and people with disabilities.
Jan’s efforts are rooted in a commitment to social and economic justice, an understanding of the social determinants of health and the life-limiting and deadly impacts of poverty, historical racism and other forms of systemic and institutional inequities. She co-authored NPW’s 2021 report Taking Action: Charting an Anti-Racist Path Forward in Westchester’s Nonprofit Sector that has resulted in Peer to Peer, the only affinity group in New York State for nonprofit personnel of color, and ongoing efforts that are designed to advance racial equity.
She is proud of the partnership forged with disabilities organizations during the COVID-19 pandemic that established NPW’s Disabilities Affinity Group which has uniquely brought together organizations across physical, intellectual, developmental, cognitive and invisible disabilities and continues to serve as a platform to educate and advocate for issues related to employment and transportation access.
Jan’s trajectory in the nonprofit sector has been fueled by a dedication to continuous learning.
