Project Description
Elizabeth Jarit is a Senior Staff Attorney at the ACLU’s Abortion Criminal Defense Initiative where she manages a network of defense attorneys nationwide to defend those threatened with criminal liability related to accessing or providing abortion care. Prior to joining the ACLU, Liz was a public defender for more than 10 years in the Appellate Section of the New Jersey Office of the Public Defender. In that capacity, she represented clients charged with felonies in the Appellate and Supreme Courts of New Jersey, was a member the Fingerprint Team for the OPD Forensic Science Workgroup, and served as the point-person within the agency concerning implementation of the Criminal Justice Reform Act. She currently serves as a Board Member for the Center for Community Alternatives, a New York-based non-profit working to promote reintegrative justice and reduce reliance on incarceration. After graduating from New York University School of Law in 2011, Liz clerked for the Hon. Anne M. Patterson on the New Jersey Supreme Court.
